Common questions

A co-lending solution is a technology platform that enables Banks and NBFCs to jointly originate, fund, service, and manage loans. It streamlines borrower onboarding, credit assessment, loan disbursement, repayment tracking, partner settlements, and regulatory reporting through a unified digital system.

Alfin’s Co-Lending Solution is designed for Banks, NBFCs, Housing Finance Companies (HFCs), Microfinance Institutions (MFIs), and other financial institutions looking to establish or scale co-lending partnerships.

Alfin combines deep lending expertise, flexible workflows, robust compliance controls, automation capabilities, and advanced analytics to help financial institutions launch, manage, and scale successful co-lending programs efficiently.

RBI’s revised co-lending norms took effect January 1, 2026. Regulated entities in a co-lending arrangement must now retain a minimum 10% share of each individual loan on their books (down from 20% for NBFCs previously). Originating entities can offer a Direct Lending Guarantee of up to 5% of outstanding loans, now extended across all loan types rather than just digital lending. The rules also require borrower-level asset classification — if one lender flags a loan as SMA or NPA, the co-lending partner must apply the same classification to its exposure.

n CLM 1 (Co-Lending Model 1), both the bank and the NBFC jointly originate and disburse the loan from day one, each contributing their share of funds upfront. In CLM 2, the NBFC disburses the loan first and the bank reimburses its portion afterward, typically up to 80% of the loan amount. Most bank-NBFC co-lending partnerships in India have historically operated on CLM 2, though RBI’s evolving guidelines have pushed for greater clarity and alignment between the two models.
